This “qualifying need” is limited to circumstances where an employee is unable to work (or telework) due to a need to care for a minor child if the child’s school or place of child care has been closed or is unavailable due to a public health emergency. On March 16th, the American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA) along with 81 other organizations signed a letter to the U.S. Senate which called for improvements to be made to H.R. 6201.

These improvements aimed to ensure that all American workers have access to paid leave in the face of the COVID-19 public health crisis while also providing relief to businesses and important incentives to sustain access to employer-provided health benefits, on which nearly 180 million Americans depend.
